DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

academic, research, and student support services to a campus that

major subunits: Campus Controller's Office, Accounting Services
(Accounts Payable, Extramural Funds, Payroll), Procurement

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Financial Affairs Technology
(FinAff-Tech) Manager, the FinAff-Tech Group Web Developer and
Operations (Dev-Ops) Specialist, serves as a key staff member of
the FinAff-Tech Group within the Enterprise Financial Systems unit.
The Dev-Ops Specialist is responsible for the development,
implementation, and maintenance of enhancements to the Financial
Affairs website, related forms and content, as well as the websites
underlying systems and technologies. The Dev-Ops Specialist
supports the FinAff-Tech Group by helping to ensure that users of
FinAff-Tech resources have ready access to relevant and
easily-retrievable guidance materials, contact information and
financial forms. The Dev-Ops Specialist works with the FinAff-Tech
team to implement coordinated strategies aimed at optimizing the
use of various technology and communication mediums to further the
Financial Affairs mission. The Dev-Ops Specialist plays a key role
in implementing the Financial Affairs long-term strategic plan for
the website. The website is a key financial management tool for
UCSC, enabling campus staff to properly use financial processes and
establish effective departmental and divisional financial control
and accountability environments. The Dev-Ops Specialist is expected
to ensure that custom strategies are implemented to meet the needs
of Financial Affairs staff members and of those on the campus
engaged in financial management duties.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Salary Information: Salary Range: $82,300 - $85,000/annually.
Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
40% - Web Platform Management and Administration
Maintain SharePoint Farm and Site Collection using the Central
Administration interface, including user configuration, timer job
management, form template management, backups and scheduled
tasks.
Leverage PowerShell to write scripts to perform analysis and
maintenance on the SharePoint site infrastructure and database.
Conduct Web server administration (IIS) and operations maintenance,
troubleshooting web platform issues as they arise.
Generate and maintain custom access policies and permissions for
site users and groups.
Maintain existing campus authentication (Shibboleth/CruzID Gold)
integration within SharePoint environment and web based forms and
services.
Configure, maintain, and scope the search crawler utility.
Assist in the coordination of focus groups for website
feedback.
Monitor the ongoing effectiveness of the website by reviewing
analytics, conducting on-line surveys, and implementing streamlined
feedback mechanisms.
Work with UCSC ITS Networking group, third party consultants, and
Rackspace web hosting service providers to ensure services meet
requirements.
Assist management with off-hours system maintenance and software
release schedule. This may include some evening and weekend work as
needed.
40% - Web Design, Development, and Implementation
Develop and deploy web features and solutions for our SharePoint
platform using JavaScript and .Net (Visual Studio, C#).
Design custom interfaces for our web features and solutions using
Adobe Creative Suite and then translate those designs into HTML and
CSS.
Collaborate with the campus Public Information Office to design
updated web themes as the UCSC campus general site theme
evolves.
Develop and implement website templates using master pages, page
layouts, lists, and custom content types in SharePoint.
Integrate campus authentication (Shibboleth/CruzID Gold) within new
web based applications, forms, and services.
Implement website workflow processes to facilitate automated
services.
Document and implement website administration standards.
Maintain and publish site content, updates and change requests from
campus units that are both internal and external to our
department.
20% - Other Duties
Assist the EFS-Tech group providing localized tier 1 tech support
to the Financial Affairs Department.
Facilitate communications with the various Financial Affairs
operating units and with others outside of Financial Affairs.
Work on special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience /
training
Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT.
Experience working with Web Content Management Systems.
Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, XML and related
technologies.
Working knowledge of web based system administration and best
practices.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to
technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the
organization.
Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse
backgrounds.
Self-motivated and works both independently and as part of a
team.
Demonstrates problem solving skills.
Ability to maintain productivity, meet deadlines and quality
standards in an environment of interruption, change, heavy
workload, and competing priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience using services such as DNS, DHCP, Internet Information
Server (IIS7+), MS SQL database, across Windows Server and MS SQL
Server platforms.
Experience scripting and developing with specific tools, libraries
and paradigms such as PowerShell, jQuery, RESTful JSON, XSLT, SASS,
Git, SharePoint Designer.
Experience using JavaScript (AJAX), PowerShell, C#, ASP.NET
technologies.
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
Broad knowledge relating to system architecture and software
design.
Experience designing, developing, deploying high visibility
application driven websites.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must be able to work remotely from a home office and be able to
fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
