Submit your materials before the IRD to ensure consideration by the hiring unit.-- The Initial Review Date (IRD) for this position is: 02-11-2021 Dept Marketing Statement The Office of Undergraduate Admissions generates, reviews, and processes in excess of 67,000 applications and serves approximately 38,000 campus visitors each year. The office has 44 career staff FTE, 45-50 part-time/temporary staff, and 150 student staff. Staff work locally and regionally throughout California and the nation.-- The office is part of Enrollment Management, which includes Financial Aid and Scholarships, Orientation and Undergraduate Admissions. Enrollment Management is part of the multi-faceted academic Division of Undergraduate Education. Undergraduate Admissions, Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Education work closely with select Academic Senate committees.-- Since its founding in 1965, the University of California, Santa Cruz, has grown from 652 students to nearly 19,000 students (2017-18) and earned international distinction as a world university with high-impact research, ranking 3rd in the world for research influence by Times Higher Education, and among the top 50 universities in the world, according to the U.S. News and World Report 2017 Best Global Universities rankings.-- A campus with world-class facilities and one of the most visually spectacular settings in higher education, UC Santa Cruz offers rigorous academic programs and cutting-edge research opportunities. At the core of our progressive educational approach are our 10 distinctive residential colleges, which organize the campus into smaller living/learning communities. Involves developing and implementing programs for student outreach, recruitment, and admissions for the university and / or school / college / department within appropriate constituents and communities; and educating the public about admissions requirements, policies, and processes. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director- Evaluations, the incumbent is responsible for the evaluation of academic records from individuals applying for undergraduate admission to the University of California, as well as from continuing UC Santa Cruz students. The incumbent analyzes and applies a wide variety of policies and procedures to determine an applicant's eligibility to the University of California and also determines if an applicant has met the UC Santa Cruz selection criteria to be admitted to the campus. The incumbent is responsible for counseling, advising, and representing the campus to various constituents, including specialized advising and evaluation of student records, as well as providing other outreach services to prospective students. Day Shift Job End Date: None Union Representation: None Travel: Up to 50% of the time Job Duties 20% - Uses extensive knowledge of college / school / department requirements and applicant pool, to assess the applicants' overall record and experience for final admissions determination and recommendation. 15% ---Uses professional judgment when reviewing complex applications for admission. Performs course-by-course evaluations for transfer credits. 10% ---Plans visits to schools, schedules and makes presentations, interviews, and follow-up visits. Identifies potential students, and provides information about higher education generally and UC specifically. 10% ---Provides in-depth information on admissions requirements, prerequisite courses, school / college programs and curricula, specific financial aid criteria, and career opportunities. 10% ---Evaluates transcripts and international records for eligibility. 10% ---Serves as liaison between students, parents, colleges / universities, community agencies, and UC college / school / department. 5% ---Assesses academic preparedness of traditional, special-program, and international applicants. 5% ---Researches foreign educational systems as needed and analyzes academic records from foreign secondary and tertiary institutions (including study abroad records). 5% ---Assesses applicants for motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work / life experience, extracurricular activities, socioeconomic status, disability, and educational / personal hardship. 5% ---Screens applicants for school / college / department faculty. 5% ---Plans, manages and implements events to enhance recruitment and yield, diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, electronic communications, and similar activities. Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges / universities and specifically at UC, and / or specific colleges and schools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
  • Ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials.
  • Proven ability to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and/or administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; experience working in the context of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Proven ability to prepare and present targeted admission materials as needed for specific majors or applicant populations. Preferred Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of UC admissions practices and procedures, including undergraduate evaluations.
    • Knowledge of international educational systems.
    • UC admissions experience with knowledge of transfer credit policies, a-g course lists and related university outreach and admission practices.
    • Working knowledge of Oracle/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system, as well as other student-based computing environments.
    • Experience with the ASSIST web site (statewide articulation web site).
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish. Special Conditions

      • Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California.--
      • The ability to move materials, weighing up to 25-30 pounds, with or without accommodation.--
      • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
      • Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area extensively including overnight stays.--
