70% - Execution of Experiments:
Performs cell culture and molecular biology research experiments
aimed at understanding the evolution and function of new gene
regulatory networks that emerged recently in the human lineage and
are derived from retrotransposons and KRAB Zinc Fingers. This
research involves culturing human and non-human primate pluripotent
stem cell culture, RNA and protein isolation and characterization
as well as reporter assays. Keeps a detailed laboratory notebook
and prepares written and oral reports describing research
30% - Lab Operations Assistance:
Supports lab operations by assisting with ordering, receiving,
stocking common reagents, chemical waste disposal, equipment
maintenance and related functions.
* Bachelor s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
* At least 1 year of experience performing research in a molecular
biology research lab.
* Knowledge of cell and molecular biology.
* Experience conducting experiments in a lab setting.
* Experience in compiling, preparation, and analysis of charts,
graphs and/or models involving experimental data.
* Strong computer skills or knowledge including Excel, Power
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent analytical and data-gathering skills.
* Good organizational, time management, and problem-solving
* Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
* Ability to work well independently and as part of a team and
exercise flexibility, initiative, and good judgment.
* Experience with pluripotent stem cell culture.
* Experience with luciferase reporter assays.
* Experience with recombinant protein expression and functional
analysis in mammalian cells.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment
criminal history background check.
Ability to wear proper safety attire (long pants, closed-toe shoes,
etc.) and personal protective equipment common in a laboratory
The ability to move materials weighing up to 20 lbs. with or
Ability to perform essential physical job functions requiring
bending, sitting, standing, walking, waist-twisting, repetitive
hand/arm use, handling objects, and use of fine finger movements
with manual dexterity.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Ability to occasionally work overtime with little or no advance
