Our HR Generalist plays a key role in helping Verve develop and deliver comprehensive, proactive strategies to ensure a positive employee experience, to protect vital business interests, ensure compliance and support company culture. This important position supports all aspects of Verve's human capital strategy and initiatives with core responsibilities in talent acquisition and life cycle support, compliance and risk mitigation, collaboration in benefits and insurance, payroll support, leave administration, workers' comp and UI. A pivotal business ally, the HR Generalist provides the highest level of customer service to all internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Support.
Oversee and update Verve's employee lifecycle procedures; Work with HR Specialist to ensure employee lifecycle support
Conduct visits to all departments and meet with department heads and managers on a regular basis
Handle conflict resolution and mediations, as needed; Ensure employee relations matters are attended to
Partner with managers and, when necessary, Verve's external counsel in disciplinary matters and employee-related investigations
Advise on reassignments and other personnel deployment considerations
Build and revise job descriptions

Compliance & Administration
Manage and administer the company's Leaves of Absence program and policies including PDL, FMLA, CFRA, ADAAA, short- and long-term disability; ensure responses to leave requests meet state and federal regulations and are within the company's standards and industry best practice
Audit and update company HR policies and practices to ensure compliance with government regulations, including wage & hour, leaves, hiring processes and employment practices
Update and implement IIPP (Illness & Injury Prevention Program) for optimal workplace health & safety, risk mitigation, and employee engagement
Oversee Workers Compensation program within HIPAA rules including manager training, resource dissemination and updates, timely and thorough filings and reporting, employee welfare monitoring, accommodations administration (as necessary); defend against fraud where required
Process accident, illness, and injury reports; maintain OSHA required documentation; prepare and file annual government reports; suggest safety improvements to leadership as appropriate
Perform quarterly file audits to ensure all required employee documentation is collected and maintained (incl. Food Handlers, Harassment Training, and I-9 records)
Perform quarterly hours audits, reconcile to benefits, and recommend corrective action where appropriate
Ensure compliant workplace labor postings at all Verve Coffee Roasters worksites
Keep Employee Handbook and employee acknowledgements current
Consult with Training & Development to design and deliver company-wide HR compliance training, onboarding training, etc. and ensure all employees are adherent
Manage relationship with the company's third-party compliance training provider (Progressive Benefit Group)
Administer the company's background check and & I-9 compliance programs, keeping up-to-date records readily available for inspection
Provide on-the-job training and development for Verve's Human Resource Specialist

Compensation

Partner with the Head of Accounting and Finance to:
Maintain a comprehensive, cost-effective and competitive compensation and benefits scheme
Enhance Verve's ability to attract, retain, motivate, and engage employees through a creative and scalable total rewards benefits program
Ensure that compensation practices comply with current laws and regulations in all regions
Provide relevant data, reports, and insight in order to assist management's data-driven decision-making
In collaboration with Training & Development and leadership, set merit review cycles and performance incentive plans
Other duties as assigned

Insurance

Partner with Head of Accounting and Finance to: In partnership with broker, manage employee health insurance benefits program including:
identifying eligible employees
selecting plan offerings in collaboration with CEO and broker
running open enrollment
enrolling newly eligible employees outside open enrollment
reporting terminations and hours reductions, ensuring COBRA notifications
tracking elections and waivers
facilitating resolution of employees' health benefits-related issues
Maintain accurate, up-to-date health insurance related records throughout the year; partner with accounting to create and submit required annual ACA report

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field; PHR/PHRca Certification strongly desired
Payroll experience and HRIS proficiency required
Minimum of 3 years in HR operations & compliance in California
Must possess a great attitude, self-initiative, sense of humor, flexibility, collaborative nature, reliability, growth mindset and subject matter expertise
Extensive knowledge of California employment laws
Advanced computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office and G Suite (esp. Excel and Sheets)
Customer service focus and strong interpersonal skills; hospitality experience is preferred
Exceptional verbal and written communication talents; superior tact, diplomacy and discretion
Excellent attention to detail; highly analytical and strategic mindset
Demonstrated ability to adapt and execute with changing priorities based on business need
Ability to multi-task and effectively project manage
Ability and willingness to travel to all Verve locations
