Job Description:
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at
the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites
applications for a research specialist. Under the direction of
Professor Lindsay Hinck, the research specialist will join a small,
friendly team of researchers studying the major public health
concern of lactation insufficiency, which is the inability to build
a milk supply during pregnancy. The Hinck Lab studies this
prevalent syndrome by investigating the recruitment, expansion and
differentiation of breast stem/progenitor cells during pregnancy
with the goal of identifying therapeutic targets. Work on this
exciting, NIH-funded project will include tissue collection,
histology and immunohistochemistry, organoid and cell culture,
genotyping, and basic protein and molecular biology techniques such
as qPCR, lysate fractionation, and Western blot. The selected
candidate will be expected to perform tasks in an organized manner,
work accurately, meet deadlines, communicate results, and
successfully work as an integral member of a research team.
Applicants with any of the following qualifications are strongly
encouraged to apply: at least two years of post-baccalaureate
laboratory experience in a field relevant to the advertised
position; experience working with murine tissue and cell culture;
expertise in cell analysis by fluorescence activated cell sorting
(FACS), PCR, and qPCR; experience with
histology/immunohistochemistry; experience with
immunoblotting/immunoprecipitation; a M.S. or M.A. degree (or
foreign equivalent) degree in a relevant field; and/or a
demonstrated record of authorship on one or more peer-reviewed
publications.
