Job Description:
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology ()
at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites
applications for a research specialist. Under the direction of
Assistant Professor Upasna Sharma, the research specialist will
contribute to a research program focused on studying the role of
non-coding RNAs in epigenetic inheritance (). Duties will include
performing mouse husbandry (including mouse breeding, genotyping,
and maintenance of colony) and assisting with various basic
molecular biological techniques such as PCR, cloning, and protein
assays. The research specialist will also manage chemical inventory
and safety records, interpret data, and write lab protocols. The
selected candidate will be expected to stay up-to-date with the
scientific literature in the field and contribute to manuscripts,
presentations, and grant proposals as needed. This position will
require the incumbent to employ excellent attention to detail,
demonstrate the potential to independently design and execute
experiments, and successfully work as a member of a diverse,
interdisciplinary research team.
Applicants with any of the following are strongly encouraged to
apply: an M.S. or M.A. degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in
biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology,
or related field at the time of application; experience in mouse
husbandry, cloning maintenance and genotyping; and demonstrated
record of authorship or co-authorship of one or more peer-reviewed
publications.
