The hospital's heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient's chest. Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care. In The Community Beyond care inside the hospital, Dominican is dedicated to the health and wellness of the Santa Cruz community. Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic, a tattoo removal program, and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition, and in accordance with our mission, Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community, including children and adults, students, seniors, and the homeless population. Responsibilities The Psychiatric Nurse Navigator assists in planning, organizing, disposition and/or referral services during the health care process for applicable patient populations - primarily those individuals with behavioral health disorders. The Navigator also serves as a resource to other areas of the hospital around care management and planning for those patients with comorbid mental health conditions. The Navigator partners with patients, families, interdisciplinary teams and community resources to provide well-coordinated, timely, compassionate and exemplary interdisciplinary care. This involves, in part:

  • Working closely with medical specialists in accumulating results and conveying difficult outcomes to patients.
  • Being readily available for consultation with patients throughout the treatment process, answering their questions and providing emotional support during exams and procedures when requested.
  • Functioning as patient liaison and advocate between County Behavioral Health, community resources and other providers
  • Facilitating appropriate follow-up care for positively diagnosed individuals. * Participating in weekly multidisciplinary case conferences
  • Participating in meetings related to position (within hospital and community) #RN@DH Qualifications
    • Experience Clinical nursing experience in an inpatient psychiatric unit and/or psychiatric emergency services.
    • Three years of clinical nursing experience.
    • Minimum 3 years experience within specialty area.
    • BSN or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Current and active California RN License
    • Current BLS certification
    • Board Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, preferred
    • Training in Non-Assaultive Crisis Intervention techniques Pay Range $71.85/Hr. - $91.72
