Unit : Peds
# Beds: 8
Ratios: 1:4, sometimes 1:3
Required Certifications : BLS NRP PALS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients: RSV, Hyperbili, ortho, appy, infection
Experience or 'Must have' skills: peds experience
Are RNs required to titrate drips Rarely, if awaiting transport, this may happen
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: nothing is common- it's rare and on a case by case basis
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Does the charge nurse take an assignment The CN tries not to have an assignment but will at times when the census is high or staffing is low
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: no
Neonatologist in house 24/7 Yes- but again, this is for peds not NICU. There is a pedi on call at all times and in house if the patient is really sick
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc): High Flow nasal Cannula, BiPap if needed while awaiting transport, vent (same as BiPap)
Is there tele on this unit Monitor Techs RNs read strips no
Shifts & Scheduling: Days is 07-1930, nights is 1900-0730. No Self Scheduling, Block Scheduling.
Weekend Requirements: every other weekend but they could be clustered and then more than one weekend off in a row (if that makes sense)
Holiday Requirements: Work in with core rotation
Is there call or a standby requirement only requirement is that they report within 30 minutes of being called in.
Floating Requirements: no floating unless desired. Could be NICU or couplet care
Scrub Color/Dress Code: Navy blue
Unit/Departments specific orientation: 3 shifts on unit
Additional Notes: We have a low pediatric census but with the surge in RSV/COVID/Flu, etc. we are in need of more help. Anticipating the census will go back to 'normal' after this winter is over.
Cancellation may cancel 3 shifts per assignment
