Job Description:
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at
the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites
applications for a research scientist. Under the direction of
Assistant Professor Bradley Colquitt, the research scientist will
play a central role in a research group studying the development
and evolution of behavior using songbirds as a model system.
Responsibilities will center around participating in a number of
research projects, setting up the Colquitt laboratory, purchasing
supplies, monitoring inventories, and establishing experiment
protocols in molecular biology and histology. Duties will also
include initially setting up and maintaining the lab's bird colony
and working with graduate and undergraduate researchers in
continuing care. The position will require the individual to
demonstrate excellent time management, attention to detail, and
record keeping skills. In addition to performing tasks in a clean
and organized manner; and to successfully work as a member of a
diverse, interdisciplinary research team.
Applicants with expertise in general molecular biology (e.g. PCR,
gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning), histology (in situ
hybridization, immunofluorescence), or microscopy, and experience
working with vertebrate laboratory models are strongly encouraged
to apply.
