Job Description:
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at
the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites
applications for a research specialist. Under the direction of
Assistant Professor David Boyd, the research specialist will
contribute to a research program in viral immunology and lung
biology investigating host responses to severe respiratory viral
infections.
Duties will include maintaining mouse colonies and planning and
performing experiments with mice, performing mammalian cell culture
experiments, and managing chemical and biological inventories and
safety records. The selected candidate will be expected to stay
current with the scientific literature in the field and contribute
to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant
proposals. This position will require excellent organizational
skills and the ability to successfully work as a member of a
diverse, interdisciplinary research team. The Boyd Lab is committed

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are strongly
encouraged to apply: an M.S. or M.A. degree (or equivalent foreign
degree) in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, virology,
or a related field; expertise in mouse models of infection;
expertise generating and quantifying stocks of viruses; experience
with flow cytometry and/or fluorescence microscopy; and/or
experience with complex mammalian cell culture systems, including
organoids.
