Job Description:
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an
immediate search for a highly strategic Chief Development Officer
(CDO). This is an incredible opportunity for a mission-driven
leader with a passion for servant leadership and a deep commitment
to supporting the blind and visually impaired community. This
full-time, hybrid position offers an annual salary of $155,000 -
$170,000 DOE; out of Palo Alto or San Jose; a robust benefits
package including 100% employer paid medical, dental and vision and
more!The Role: As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and
reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer (CDO)
will play a central role in building strong partnerships with
fellow leaders, board members, and community stakeholders. The CDO
will lead a dynamic Development Team-comprised of both staff and
dedicated volunteers-in driving fundraising strategy and execution
to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of essential
services for the visually impaired. Overseeing a current charitable
giving portfolio of $1.7M, the CDO will manage and expand
fundraising campaigns, appeals, events, and donor engagement
initiatives.RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Initiatives
- Manage and update workflows as needed to accept, record, and
reconcile financial contributions.
- Grow revenues from individuals, corporations, family
foundations, events, and other innovative nonprofit revenue
channels (public grants are not currently under development).
- Expand the quantity of donors by leveraging Salesforce, a newly
implemented tool.
- Participate in strategic planning with the leadership team and
key stakeholders to maximize revenue through innovative and
creative sources.
- Lead the Board Development Committee in achieving revenue and
participation goals.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to
collaborate, build relationships, and achieve results within groups
that may have competing interests, opinions, or
expectations.Execute the Annual Fundraising
- A broad-based annual giving program, leveraging Annual/December
and Spring campaigns.
- Assess for quality and build upon healthy pipeline of major
gift prospects.
- Evaluate current comprehensive stewardship plan for
donors.
- Goals and resources in place to support several "named" annual
fundraiser events.
- Goals and support for the Corporate Partner Program, including
a revenue plan (fee-for-service and charitable donations).
- Ongoing assessment of events and campaigns as part of a
continuous improvement model (currently leveraging the Success
Report).
- Emphasis on thoroughness and attention to detail in both
narrative and quantitative reporting (e.g., year-to-date revenue,
budgets, Board reporting).Fundraising Management
- Provide supervision/leadership to the Fundraising staff and
volunteers (host committees).
- Provide Palo Alto, San Jose, and Santa Cruz offices support in
revenue growth.
- Author narrative/copy for development and stewardship
communications in culturally appropriate styles for each donor
segment.
- Provide thoughtful focus on appropriate copy for our clients
living with vision loss.
- Prioritize funding needs/gaps for the organization and develop
a clear case for new funding.
- Formidable attention/focus on reducing the current operating
deficit for the organization, thus the need to grow 30% in the next
two years.
- Ensure funds are raised in a cost-effective and efficient
manner, utilizing best practice metrics to benchmark success.
- Collaborate with accounting/GAAP practices to manage acceptance
and recognition policies and procedures for charitable
contributions.
- Reconcile revenue metrics with Accounting monthly.MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of proven fundraising success in the nonprofit
sector, including donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and
donor base growth. 5+ years of leadership and management
experience, preferably within a leading nonprofit
organization.
- Experience securing funding from non-governmental grant
sources.
- Skilled at partnering with program staff to turn client needs
into impactful fundraising opportunities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and
organizational skills.
- Experience in accounting, financial analysis, and budget
preparation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the
ability to craft persuasive marketing and fundraising.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Peninsula and Santa Cruz
regions, with occasional weekend commitments.COMPENSATION AND
