Job Description:
The Institute for Social Transformation at the University of
California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Project
Manager (Academic Coordinator I). Housed in the division of Social
Sciences, the institute is a critical intellectual and social hub
connecting scholars across UC Santa Cruz and partners beyond the
university in developing research-based solutions to urgent
problems in the world. In partnership with the Equity Research
Institute at USC and PolicyLink, an Oakland-based national research
and action organization, and with the support of the Sierra Health
Foundation, the institute is working to develop and deliver
trainings and tools for underserved and Black, Indigenous and
People of Color (BIPOC)-led community organizations to effectively
engage in community economic development, policy advocacy and
power-building efforts aimed at leveraging public investments,
including from the American Rescue Plan, Infrastructure Investment
and Jobs Act, and Community Economic Resiliency Fund.
Under the direction of the Institute Faculty Director Chris Benner,
the project manager will coordinate the training and
capacity-building work of the Community Economic Mobilization
Initiative (CEMI). Additionally, the project manager will provide
ongoing support to the project team from UC Santa Cruz, the Equity
Research Institute at USC, and PolicyLink. In collaboration with
the Sierra Health Foundation, this team will be providing technical
assistance and developing curriculum and resource materials focused
on equitable community economic development for community
organizations across 13 different regions of California. The
project manager will coordinate collaborations among project team
and community organizations, track and maintain records of project
components, support communications and information flows among team
members, community partners, and appropriate state and federal
agencies.
The incumbent will have excellent organizational and communication
skills, proficiency in project management software and
applications, and be knowledgeable of community economic
development in California. Candidates should be enthusiastic about
working in culturally diverse settings with organizations committed
to social justice and sustainability.
