Job Description:

The Writing Program (WP) () at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position at the Associate Teaching Professor level. Within the University of California, Associate Teaching Professors have full tenure and Senate rights. The Teaching Professor series prioritizes teaching and also values professional achievement and activity. In the Writing Program, Associate Teaching Professors typically teach six courses. Release time is granted for significant service opportunities and obligations, including administering the Writing Program.
UCSC's WP currently has a faculty of five Teaching Professors and approximately 45 union-represented lecturers. We are seeking a Writing Studies/Rhetoric and Composition/TESOL teacher-scholar. Area of specialty is open. The successful candidate will have training and professional experience in the field of Writing Studies/Rhetoric and Composition/TESOL and will teach a range of writing courses and share administrative responsibilities with other Writing Program faculty. The successful candidate will participate in writing program administration, such as placement, program and personnel reviews, and discussions of pedagogy and policy. The selected candidate will be expected to rotate in as WP Chair in the coming years. Chair service includes additional course release.
The WP currently offers a lower-division writing curriculum that includes entry-level writing courses to satisfy the statewide Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR), known as Writing 1, and university-level writing courses satisfying the campus composition (C) requirement, known as Writing 2. The program also offers writing courses for students acquiring academic English (the Multilingual Curriculum, or MLC). Upper-division courses are available for aspiring writing tutors, as is a rigorous seminar for graduate students wishing to teach writing. A new Writing Minor is under development, as is a Graduate Certificate. The WP offers courses in in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
The WP is an independent unit within the Humanities Division, which also includes the Departments of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, Feminist Studies, History, History of Consciousness, Linguistics, Languages & Applied Linguistics, Literature, and Philosophy. The Division has a strong tradition of collaborative and interdisciplinary work, and encourages applications from qualified candidates eager to extend their activities across departmental and disciplinary boundaries.

The chosen candidate will be expected to sign a statement representing that they are not the subject of any ongoing investigation or disciplinary proceeding at their current academic institution or place of employment, nor have they in the past ten years been formally disciplined at any academic institution/place of employment. In the event the candidate cannot make this representation, they will be expected to disclose in writing to the hiring Dean the circumstances surrounding any formal discipline that they have received, as well as any current or ongoing investigation or disciplinary process of which they are the subject. (Note that discipline includes a negotiated settlement agreement to resolve a matter related to substantiated misconduct.)
