The department is steeped in the traditions of journalism as an agent of social change and a bulwark for a healthy democracy. Required curriculum includes a 12-unit Equity Core covering diversity, law, ethics, and social impact of journalism. Skills courses vary by concentration, and all are capped at 20 students.The department's mission is "to educate students and provide leadership in an evolving media landscape by promoting excellence, integrity, creativity and social responsibility in telling the stories of a multicultural world."   • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or closely related field;
  • Master's degree in Journalism or closely related field and/or at least five years of professional experience in journalism, which could include photojournalism, multimedia, reporting, writing, editing, social media, etc.Preferred:
    • A master's degree in Journalism or closely related field is preferred; a Ph.D. in journalism, communications or a related field is welcome;
    • Record of teaching experience in the areas of journalism, narrative non-fiction, multimedia, documentary filmmaking, graphic design, or related fields;
    • Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching;
    • Experience working closely with students from historically underrepresented communities;
